A Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of two Kansas carnival vendors, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said Monday. A Woodward County man accused of shooting his wife and then running away with their two young children in Kansas has not been charged in the fatal shooting in western Kansas, authorities said. But a former correctional officer who is believed to have run away after a fatal car crash in Salina, in the canton of St. Gallen, may not escape prosecution after all, according to his lawyer.
An 11-year-old boy was injured in the accident after jumping from a moving truck, police said. Jay Konrade was identified as the driver of a single vehicle travelling at the time of the crash on March 20, 2018, and two children aged 11 and 12 were injured. He was reportedly identified by his wife Jennifer as a former Kansas State Police correctional officer.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Curtis D. drove a freightliner semi-trailer and injured one person on August 24, 2019. The accident happened at about 11.15pm in Lourdes, with the 27-year-old driver suffering serious injuries. I-70 was reported as a traffic accident, but the incident was only designated as a # 3 car accident. Another person was injured in a crash on Interstate 70, Kansas State Police said.
